i think it's time for another about me blog.

i feel fragmented...once again.

so here goes nothing...

-i love wearing red lipstick. and no. i don't care if guys like it. or don't like it. i love it. makes me feel powerful.

-i had never seen a 2 dollar bill before until recently and now I have 2 lucky 2 dollar bills from two of the greatest people i know. i will never use them. that's why they're lucky. duh.

-i wish i was funny enough to do stand-up comedy. those people are incredibly brave.

-my family are some of the coolest people you'll ever hang out with.

-i'm a sucker for blue eyes. sometimes i make an exception. but blue eyes will almost always do it for me.

-kissing is one of my favorite things to do. ever.

-i can't own enough dresses. or sunglasses.

-i'm an obsessive "journaler"(which you wouldn't think considering i blog so randomly).

-i wish i could share minnesota with all the people i love in california because i truly feel it's such a huge part of who i am today. plus it's gorgeous almost all year round.

-my greatest challenge in life is patience.

-i refuse to blog about really personal things on the internet, it's what my journal is for. it works for some people, for me, it's pointless. why indirectly talk about something to "someone" when you can use the real world and do it face to face?

-that's another thing. i prefer face to face over ANYTHING else. i can text with the best of them, but i'll give up all day texting for an hour of face time. i'll promise you that.

-i believe that absence can totally make the heart grow fonder, but it still sucks.

-toy story 3 completed my childhood.

-i need desperately to cure my habit of staying up so late, this can truly do no good in my future.

-a nice margarita with some chips and salsa on a summer day=perfection.

it's always been a challenge for me to remain present in the moment.

i go through my phases where it's easier than others.

now.

is not one of those moments.

i have found it more and more difficult to let myself just be.

i am constantly thinking about the next moment, what needs to be done that isn't being done, what might happen in the future, what if this, what if that...

that i have lost touch with my ability to appreciate each moment as it happens.

to lovingly detach from it.

but be present for all of it.

i'm not sure why.

i don't know if it's fear.

i don't know if it's just too great a mystery for me to comprehend.

i don't know what it is.

school is losing it's mojo for me, i'm over the papers and countless busy assignments.

i so greatly ache for the "real world"

(which i've always hated by the way...we are all in the real world, nothing about school is fake...)

i just want more.

let me start by saying i have a new favorite actress:

amanda seyfried.

you have got it goin on in so many ways it's scary.

the range you have shown thus far...is admirable.

if you've not seen 'Chloe' you should.

it's so disturbingly beautiful.

and her performance blew me away.

she is one to watch.

i am currently in one of the heaviest forms of PSD (post show depression) i've ever experienced.

for those of you who don't know.

i've had one helluva semester.

along with being IN a show.

i was also a crew head for ANOTHER show.

but it was faces like this that made me sane.

every.

single.

day.

and more. trust me. plenty more. but too many pictures is annoying.

just sayin.

i've always equated being a play like being in a relationship.

when you audition...it's like a first date.

if you get a callback...it's like a second date.

and then you see the cast list...and it's official.

the first few weeks of the rehearsal process are similar to a new relationship because you are so wide-eyes and excited. you're constantly learning about your character, your cast mates, your director, all of it.

and then you go into tech, where hopefully, you have created a solid foundation.

and then there is the run of the show.

the wonderful, stressful, exciting, exhilarating run of the show.

and then there is strike. and then it's over.

it's bittersweet because hopefully you have not only fallen for your new theatre family, but you have grown because of them.

it's like the most beautiful breakup you can encounter.

it still hurts once it's over. but you know that you are better for having been a part of it.

Oscar season is upon us folks.

and although the ceremony tends to get a bit long...i always enjoy watching the envelope open for the big categories.

anyone who knows me. knows it is no secret that i sincerely loved Up in the Air.

that love extends to it's two stars: George Clooney and Vera Farmiga.

it's always difficult for me to decide who is really Oscar worthy, but these two were fantastic.

their chemistry was perfect.

and i'm starting to believe he can do (almost) no wrong.

this was the first time i've seen Vera Farmiga in anything (i know it's not her first role) and i loved her.

she was stunning in so many senses of the word.

Christoph Waltz.

to think i wasn't really interested in seeing you in Inglorious Bastards because i thought it "wasn't my kinda movie"

well i'm glad i did.

not only did i thoroughly enjoy the film.

i was inspired by this man right here.

his dialect was impeccable.

you hated him. truly hated him.

just amazing.

and now a little input for next year.....

as if i needed a reason...Shutter Island has slipped Mr.Dicaprio into my favorite actor slot.

seriously.

i have not seen a film this man did not commit to.

he is wonderful.

he is multi-dimensional.

he is one of the greatest actors of my generation.

this is the first truly "free" moment i've had all week.

deciding to be a crew head for a show.

while i'm IN a different show.

and one of the prop masters FOR that SAME show.

while taking a full plate of classes this semester.

crazy.

i'm crazy.

but i'll tell ya something...

as stressed as learning this New Jersey dialect is making me...it's incredibly satisfying when it sounds authentic.

as exhausted as i am each morning, i know i'm learning some major life skills.

i'm surrounded by wonderful people.

at school.

on ichat at the end of the day.

or within the comfort of my own family.

i am sleepy.

i am happy.

i am memorizing like a freakin maniac.

i have incredibly sore feet from being in heels for 4 hours straight every night this week.

but i wouldn't trade any of it.

honest to god.

i would not.

i'm so proud of my cast.

they are wonderful people who work so damn hard every single night.

i can't wait to show the world the waiting room.

i've spent a fair amount of time in airports the past 3 weeks.

and i've come up with some observations.

or opinions.

or just plain people watching commentary:

-Men who fly in suits are incredibly attractive.

-Everything is more expensive in an airport.

-9 out of 10 times, you will get a screaming baby on your flight.

-Traveling alone is the most sane thing you can do.

-People are rude.

-People are considerate.

-Airports are one of the best spots for people watching.

-I wonder if anyone was people watching me.

-How do birds manage to get IN to the airport? And yes, I've seen this on more than one occasion.

-Most of the food options are total crap, but you'll eat them anyway.

-Pilots have an incredibly respectable profession. I honestly don't know how they do what they do, the idea of driving a truck scares me, let alone flying something that huge up in the air.

-And finally, airports are the earth equivalent to limbo.

There is something about an airport that makes you feel like time is standing still. The time zone changes, the lighting is almost always the same. The food options never change. The uniforms the employees wear are all the same. When you are in an airport, waiting for your flight, you are, in some ways, untouchable. There is nothing you can do, but wait to get on your flight.

-Oh. And security can bite the big one right now. We might as well be naked while going through those damn checkpoints. Bleh.

But after all this traveling, waiting, and junk food eating...one of the greatest things ever:

hugging someone you love, waiting on the other end, in an airport.

And if you're looking for a good movie that can relate to my theories....this one's a keeper.

first things first...

when did they start putting ads in books??

weird.

i've decided to write another sort of..."small pleasures" blog.

because i personally think small pleasures are some of the most important.

so here we go...

simple pleasure one: walking around the halls of the theatre department. i spend almost all my time there anyway, i might as well enjoy it.

i also kinda like that i have no reception in the building. it makes it so the only people who can get ahold of me...are the people with me. which helps me continue to live in the moment.

i've also been trying to make mental memories of the smells, sounds, feelings i get in the building. i only have two semesters left.

gotta soak it up while i still can.

simple pleasure two: black nail polish. it's my favorite. always. spring. summer. fall. winter. always.

simple pleasure three: barnes and noble. which is self explanatory. i could spend hours there. easily.

simple pleasure four: smooches.

such a simple pleasure. such a wonderful act.

simple pleasure five: knowing that winter break is quickly approaching. i plan on lot's of painting. reading. exercising. and quality time with my favorites.

simple pleasure six: new books.

simple pleasure seven: cold weather. scarfs. and cuddles.

simple pleasure eight: challenging yourself. whenever you are in a rut. challenge yourself. immediately. just do it.

it's an instant mood changer.

last night i saw the second film in the Twilight saga.

"New Moon"

once the film was completed 2 hours and 10 minutes later (oy!) these were the thoughts running through my head:

(twilight fans proceed with caution...)

1. Everything that comes out of Edward's mouth could be considered...girl porn.

"Bella, you are my life now."

"I can't imagine living in a world in which you don't exist."

you get the picture.

i wonder how R-Patz feels about the fact that his lines consist of ONLY crap like this...it's as if his only purpose in the entire film is to make Bella feel as if she is the ONLY girl that has ever existed. ever. anywhere. in the entire world.

it's a slight insult to my standards as a woman...if some guy started feeding me this crap...i'd have to question his sanity...and intentions.

and belive me. i'm a lover in every sense of the word.

but this is just too much.

it's over the top.

2. The influence this movie will have on the mindsets of young girls truly concerns me.

yes. i know. it's a movie.

but tell that to the 14 year old who's myspace headline is something along the lines of

"looking for my edward"

the most upsetting (and i use this term a bit lightly) montage is one of Kristen Stewart (more on THIS girl later) sitting in a chair in her room looking like death for MONTHS after edward has essentially "broken up" with her.

she doesn't spend time with any of her friends.

she doesn't talk to her dad.

she does nothing.

but think. of the pale. sparkling guy who "left" her for good.

now. having lived 22 years on this earth i've been fortunate enough to learn the lesson that i don't need to be in a relationship.

i don't need another person to define me.

i'm totally. and completely fine on my own.

i greatly enjoy finding someone special. and sharing my time with someone.

and i know that one day...i'll have a great counterpart to take on the world with...

but i do not NEED it at this point in my life when i am surrounded by wonderful friends, family, and witty boys who make me smile :-)

but how are you going to explain that to the young girls who have never experienced a breakup of any kind before...go to twilight...and see miss Stewart's life unravel after her boyfriend leaves her?

hmmm?

i repeat. i know it's a movie.

but let's also be honest. this movie is a g-d damn CULT sensation. the amount of young girls seeing this movie is unreal.

we are influenced by the world around us.

the movies we watch.

the music we listen to.

the celebrities we "idolize"

i'm just sayin.

3. Kristen Stewart. The definition of underwhelming.

this one is pretty self explanatory.

the girl's acting style consists of biting her lip. and playing with her hair. while looking confused.

ALL THE TIME.

as a young actress myself, it's rather frustrating to watch a young lady who (i hope) is capable of far greater than she showcases, work consistently.

she teaches you how to act by showing what NOT to do.

and the thing is.

i don't want either guy to end up with her. i think jacob is so damn adorable it's a little embarrassing to admit, and edward is alright too.

but i don't see why they love bella so much.

4. Congratulations Taylor Lautner for showing what it's like to WORK for your craft.

as most know.

Taylor Lautner plays the role of Jacob.

he was in jeopardy of losing his role after the first film because he was not "buff" enough.

this kid. made it his MISSION to keep his part.

after the filming of the first film he put on over 25 pounds of muscle for this damn thing

(yes i googled that. i definitely didn't KNOW this fact)

and his hard work shows.

not in a creepy way.

in an, honest to god, this kid worked his little butt off kinda way.

he looked great.

and made the film tolerable for a girl who greatly disliked the first movie because he can ACT.

-i'm in love with everything theatre. i love the rush. i love the feeling where my heart pounds in my chest right before i step on stage...and then relaxes as soon as the light covers me like a blanket. i love the possibility. i love the audience. i love the castmates. i love the directors. i love the unexpected. i love thinking on my feet. i love the laughter. i love the hardwork. i love the long hours. i love the dressing rooms. i love the vocal warmups. i love the hours. i love the end result.

-i'm a little obsessed with my blackberry. i'm sure this love affair will loosen its hold on me over time..but i think i'm forever a blackberry user now.

-i love being busy. this week has been such an odd transition back to "normal" life. i miss having no time. isn't that weird?

-i love pictures. this isn't new. but i thought i'd say it anyway.

-i'm starting to fall in love with everything around me. and realizing it's a beautiful way to live.

Grand Marais you say?

I am officially embarking on my first solo road trip at 9:00am tomorrow morning. I'm off to see the rude one in his hometown of Grand Marais. It's a four hour drive, all by my lonesome. So I've loaded up my ipod with a brand new playlist, packed up some fruit leather and almonds, and crammed my favorite blue leather samsonite tote with more clothes than I need for a day and a half. Is it dorky that I feel totally independent doing this by myself? I've done more roadtrips than I can count in my 21 years of life, but never solo. It's incredibly freeing. I wonder if I'll still feel that way on hour 4 of the trip...hah.

I've been spending some quality alone time back here in the midwest, here some fun tidbits that have been floating around in my head as a result...

-I want to be in independent films. They have the most heart. I rarely come across and indie film I don't enjoy. Focus Features happens to make some GREAT ones...I strongly recommend Away We Go...

-which brings me to this. I have a new favorite actor to add to the collection...John Krasinski. I think he was honestly trying to make me fall in love with him during the entire movie. I'm just sayin.

-I love a guy who drinks beer. I have no idea why it's such a turn on, and alcoholism is a different story, please don't get me started on that. But I can appreciate a guy who can kick back a couple beers. Mhmm.

-Country music is damn sexy. (No, not the honkey tonkey stuff) Seriously. I was watching some video countdown of the sexiest country music videos last night...anyone who says that isn't sexy...is NUTS. Listen to "I Melt" by Rascal Flatts...you'll get it.

-Alone time is not a luxury, it is a necessity. You will learn more about yourself in the time you spend alone than you'd imagine.

-I feel "sexiest" after I workout. There is something about knowing you just did something incredibly healthy for your body that's really rewarding. Plus, I've always thought that the post-workout glow that any male or female sports makes them look sexaaay. Maybe it's the sweating?

-After not seeing her for 12 days I realize, even more so than before, that my sister is my soulmate. I miss her too much and am so glad she's coming back to me tomorrow.

-Rachel McAdams is one of the most stunning women on this planet.

-I'm really, really happy. And it feels damn good. I've finally started to learn the art of finding your own inner happiness. This is only the beginning.

-A phone call will always trump a text. And face to face will always trump a phone call. The third alternative is Skype. It's a lifesaver.

-My clothing weakness is anything that's got tiny little flowers on it. That, and fedoras. I need some new ones.

-Being humble will never go out of style. I wish some people would understand that. Let your achievements speak for themselves. No need to shove them down our throats people.

-I've been through a lot in my friendships in the past year, but the best thing about all of it? It's made room for some incredible people. The greatest loves in my life are my friends. And three of them can be summed up in these initials. C. E. D.

-I have the cutest puppies in the world. And they will ALWAYS be my puppies, no matter how old they are.

I'm almost always thinking too many thoughts at once and while this can, at times, be incredibly entertaining, sometimes it's a bit overwhelming.

So I've decided to share my fragmented thoughts...some vague, some not so vague...eh, whatever.

You get the point....

-I greatly miss sharing sleep. I figure, if you spend a third of your life sleeping(?) what better way to spend it then by sharing it?

-I'd like to find someone worthy of sharing sleep with.

-Road trips are truly one of my all time favorite things to do, ever. I should go on them more with the people I love. I've always felt that you REALLY learn a lot about a person through the way they road trip. Hours upon hours locked in a little space can reveal lot's.

-I'm starting to warm up to the idea of living on my own and that's incredibly scary...and exciting.

I'm an awful blogger.

I'll admit it.

So, to try and make up for it and give my one (gorgeous and AMAZING) reader, elaine, something to read when she has a free moment in her crazy schedule, I give you a random post. Probably the most random post EVER.

Hah. Enjoy?

-I'm officially a coffee drinker. This occurred to me this morning when, in a rush, I asked my mom to "pleaaaase make a quick pot of coffee" while I scrambled to get my sleepy ass off to school. I then realized that I haven't gone ONE morning in two weeks without the caffeinated beverage...oh brother. At least I'm consistent? Hah.

-I made my "CSUN debut" today in a directing scene for the wonderful Meagann Pallares. It was a scene from the one act "No Exit" and I had a total blast. We had been working really hard the past couple weeks to make it work and I think we pulled it off really nicely. I'll try this whole photo post thing and see if I can upload a picture of Dana and I below...

-SCHOOL IS ALMOST OVER!?! I cannot believe that this means I've been in college for 4 years now. How is it possible that I graduated from high school so long ago?? Craziness I tell you. According to my advisor, the one, the only BARRY, I should be able to graduate in a year..ie...2 MORE SEMESTERS! So much to think about. Such a crazy work load ahead in order to make that happen.

-I want a blackberry. So effing bad. Ugh. Why can't cell phones be REALLY cheap?? And why am I so fickle with my cell phone purchases?

-I hate facebook, but I'm a total hypocrite because I still have it. If I really hated it as much as I claim, I'd just delete it already. One day I will, but apparently today is not that today, tomorrow isn't lookin too good either...

-I'm starting to HATE text messaging. It's so rare to find people that would rather talk than text. I love finding those people.

-I have really mixed emotions about this summer because although I'm looking forward to going home, a lot of things have changed. It's going to be a very different summer than I'm used to and most of the people I'd like to be spending my summer days with won't be as geographically close as they are now. Looks like I'll be taking some road trips this summer...haha.

-I miss New York. The city was honestly one of the coolest places to visit. I really want to go back there soon.

-I am not, in ANY way, a morning person. I wonder how this is going to affect my life going forward.

-I am constantly learning about myself. I know this is a given to most people, but honestly, every time I think I may know everything I can know about myself, something else happens to prove me very wrong. I'm growing more every single day and I'm starting to look forward to all of the chapters that lay ahead. College is just one chapter and I'm anxiously awaiting the opportunity to keep "writing"(so to speak).

-Patience is a virtue. It is one of the most difficult to master, but certainly one of the most important.

So...I think that's all I got in me for the time being. Let me leave you with a song lyric that's been circling around in my head ALLLLDAY today...alright...everyday, because Jason is just THAT good.

Dictionary.com defines humility as:

the quality or condition of being humble; modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance, rank, etc.

So, in other words. NOT the title of this post.

If ever in my life I've realized the importance of humility, it would have to be now. I don't care if you're the pope, tom cruise, or the winner of the nobel peace prize. If you don't have humility, you don't have much. Let your accomplishments speak for themselves for god's sake. I personally find that much more impressive and inspiring than someone who's gotta let me know, as often as possible, all the wonderful, amazing, and incredible things they have done/are doing/will do.

That's not to say that you shouldn't have CONFIDENCE, but sadly, there is a fine line between a healthy combination of confidence and flat out arrogance. A line so very fine, it's often blurred by our society.

And while we're talking about confidence, what the heck, dictionary.com defines confidence as:

con-fi-dence

-noun

1. full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing

2. belief in oneself and one's powers or abilities; self-confidence; self-reliance; assurance

Now, just for laughs, let's see what (yes, you guessed it) dictionary.com says about arrogance:

offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride

As human beings I truly believe that we should all "check" ourselves from time to time. Let us make sure we are not, in fact, the things that drive us the most crazy in others.

(did that even make sense? hah)

So by all means, keep your head up high, be proud of your achievements. Just remember that you're not the only one working hard, accomplishing dreams, or solving world peace. We're all in this together baby. Let's try and remember that every once in awhile.

Okay.
Maybe not saving the world, but certainly talking about it.

I've never had a "blog" before and to be honest, I don't know what made me get one even now. You probably won't find anything earth shattering or incredibly interesting on here, just the thoughts of a young twenty-something trying to figure out who the heck she is in this incredibly big world.
